A Conversation About Why Good Habits Break Easily?
Where’s my tea waiter?
“Have you read all of these books?” she said
“Most of them,” I said over my shoulder as I put enough water in the kettle and collated the gubbins to make tea.
It was quiet for a few seconds, then:
“You’ve read all the music books though, right?”
“Most of them,” I said, flicking the switch on the kettle and joining her in the almost next room, the living room was between the kitchen and my little home office where my music books were but they shared a wall.
“Some books”, I said, “I have to wait for the right moment, the right mood. On some occasions, I’ve read the chapter titles, or looked through an index, and realised I need to buy some more music before I can read them so that I can soundtrack the music that the books are about”.
“You’re such an anorak,” she replied.
“Thanks,” I said, smiling.
She pulled a book off the shelf, “What about this big boy then, about Sam Cooke? Was it any good? I like Sam Cooke, he’s one of my mum’s favourites.”
